Do I need an assistant account?
No. LedgerHQ works on its own, and you can keep the books yourself. If you want help, bring your own Muse or Grok Bot account. LedgerHQ imports your connected bank activity; your assistant helps categorize, post, reconcile, and answer questions. Assistant subscriptions and provider charges are separate from LedgerHQ.
Which assistant should I choose?
If you’re not sure, start with Muse from Meta. It offers free usage with limits, and our Muse connection guide walks through each step. Grok Bot from xAI suits owners who want a bot to take on jobs from its own cloud computer; it has its own plans. Both connect to LedgerHQ the same way, with your approval.
Do I have to give you a credit card?
No card is needed for the 14-day trial. When you choose to subscribe, your first active business is $20/month and each additional active business is $10/month, up to five. Each business includes six bank/card accounts; extra accounts are $1/month each.
How do bank connections work?
Open Transactions in LedgerHQ and choose Connect a bank. Authorize your bank through Plaid and choose the accounts for your business. LedgerHQ checks for new activity automatically, even when your browser or assistant is closed. Review connection health and reconnect in Transactions when needed.
Can I bring my existing books?
Yes. Work with your assistant to agree on a start date, review your opening balances, and bring in supported files or statements for older activity. The history available through a bank connection varies, so check for gaps before treating the books as complete.
Will this work on my iPhone or iPad?
Yes. Use LedgerHQ in your browser on a phone, tablet, or computer. You can add the web app to your Home Screen. A separate native iPhone app will come later.
Can I still use the books myself?
Yes. Open LedgerHQ to connect banks, review transactions, run reports, create invoices, and work with statements and reconciliations. You can also answer your assistant’s questions in Needs your call on the Businesses page.
Can my accountant see my books?
Export your reports and books from LedgerHQ to share with your accountant or tax preparer. If you want a bookkeeper or accountant working in the books with you, talk to us about LedgerHQ Pro, which is built for firms that manage client books.
What happens if I stop paying?
After the trial or paid period ends, your books stay readable and exportable. New bookkeeping changes require an active plan. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid period.
Is this for a bookkeeping firm?
This plan is for owners managing their own businesses, with a maximum of five. LedgerHQ Pro has the firm tools for managing client work.
